Resize and restructure your e-commerce site to work well on mobile devices. Mobile friendly layouts can reduce your bounce rate by up to 20 percent. They make it easier for shoppers to scroll through the site and get what they want faster.

2. Check Your Website Speed

When implementing your online store, you want to ensure that your pages are loading fast. The growth of mobile usage in search means consumers are demanding fast web experiences.

Up to 40 percent of shoppers will abandon your site if it takes more than three seconds to load. The best ways to boost your site speed include:

  • Reducing page size
  • Using a Content Delivery Network
  • Compressing your data
  • Defining image dimensions
  • Monitoring your speed regularly

Today, great website speed is also an important SEO factor that will boost your rankings in SERPs.

3. Provide Product Recommendations

Your website design should offer a module for product recommendations to personalize the shopping experience for your visitors. Personal recommendations help to drive shoppers’ decisions in a purchase cycle.

When deciding what products to recommend, consider past purchases, rated and liked items, shopping cart items, and related purchases. Deploy a Product Information Management (PIM) system to ensure personalized recommendations for every shopper.

You can also use a prebuilt application from the Shopify’s App Store to provide recommendations or get a custom application.

4. Check Your Site Navigation

The last thing you want is shoppers abandoning your site because they can’t locate what they want. So, check your site navigation to ensure they can find products quickly and easily.

Use meaningful and coherent category labels on your top level navigation to describe product ranges. Also, ensure the top-level navigation is clickable. It can be great to have your own navigation design, but experts recommend following the conventional designs that most shoppers are familiar with.

Include a site search box at the top of every page to make it easy for customers to find what’s not listed on the navigation.
